LADAKH WITH TRIYANA
Ladakh is situated in the far north of the sub-continent, over 3,500m up on the high plateau. With a high altitude desert dominated by rugged snow-capped mountains and deep turquoise lakes, it is often referred to as ‘little Tibet’. Over your 10 nights here you’ll be moving throughout the region staying at small and boutique accommodation as you take in the remote and wild landscape, away from the more tourist area such as Leh. The dramatic mountains that encircle Ladakh make the region like a high-altitude desert, juxtaposed against lush green paddy fields hugging the mighty river valleys producing landscapes that seem otherworldly. Everything you do in Ladakh is totally flexible and done at your pace ensuring your experience of this region is suitably exhilarating.
During your trip, there are so many diverse things on offer such as exploring the villages with a local headman, visiting monasteries for morning prayers, learning to cook Ladakhi food, meeting a Buddhist monk, rafting up the Indus or just sitting back and letting Ladakh soak into your senses. As you journey between accommodations you will do so on foot, river raft and by vehicles stopping at little-visited places where you are often the only visitor. During your time here you will have a permanent escort who travels with you and knows the customs of the villages intimately. By getting into the more remote areas, you make the most of this truly wonderful Himalayan outpost. Please note, the best time to visit Ladakh is the summer months from the end of May to October. Ladakh is in the rain shadow of the monsoon and as such, days are sunny and bright making the summer the perfect time to visit. To end your trip you will travel back to Leh where you will be able to take your connecting flight home or your onward destination, most likely through Delhi.
