Ladakh as we know is a cold climate region. The winds are strong and chilly which are harsh for the skin. This makes the skin very dry. On top of that as the sky is clear, the sun rays fall directly which causes skin tanning (well, a little tan is good 😉
By following a couple of simple things you can keep your skin fresh, moisturised and look beautiful.
1. Drink lots of water
This is a thumb rule for those travelling in cold regions like Ladakh. Water will keep your skin hydrated and mositurised plus it will also give you oxygen.
2. Moisturise Well
This will help increase the hydration in skin, which will keep your skin soft and in a good condition. So always carry a moisturiser and apply before starting your journey. A good moisturiser will soak in the skin and will not hold on dust particles.
3. Avoid foundation
Foundation will form this thick layer over your skin, which will not let it breathe, and as the oxygen levels are a bit low in Ladakh it will make your skin dry, flaky and rough. So use a moisturiser. And if you still want to use a foundation better to go for a primer, it will help foundation and blush last longer and help keep your skin from becoming dehydrated.
4. Mist With Mineral Water
Those who like to have a little makeup on their face, to refresh it while traveling, never glob on more foundation or blush. Instead, use a mister of mineral water and add a dab of moisturizer. That’s the mantra always!
5. Avoid using dirty hands on face
Our hands get in contact with a lot of things, which carry bacteria and viruses. Better not to touch your face with your hands while travelling. Keep a blot paper or clean soft tissue to dab your face as and when required.
6. Sunscreen lotion
UV rays at high altitude can be damaging to the skin, even during the harshest of winter and at such altitudes, so don’t forget to carry a good quality sunscreen lotion with rating of SPF30 or higher and apply it properly before going out in the sun.
7. UV sunglasses
While travelling in Ladakh, the UV rays at high altitude might not be good for the eyes. Also, the mountain passes have a lot of snow cover and sunlight reflecting from the snow can be even harsher! So get those sunglasses on!
8. Lip balm
This is the most important thing to keep in your bag or jeans pocket while travelling in Ladakh. Dry and cold weather of Ladakh will make your lips dry, which can get quite painful due to cracking and skin coming off, so make sure to carry a lip balm or Vaseline.
9. Mustard oil
This might be a bit cumbersome to carry. But can purchase from Leh local market. Mustard oil can be used for moisturising skin, putting it in your hair and for lubricating insides of nostrils, which can become quite dry due to dry and cold winds of Ladakh.
10. Nothing can beat your inner beauty
If you are happy inside, it will show on your face. Just be you. Enjoy your travel!
