Day 01: Arrival at Manali

Upon arrival in Manali, check-in to your hotel and take some time to relax and acclimatize to the altitude. Take a leisurely stroll through the town, taking in the sights and sounds of this picturesque hill station.

Day 3: Manali to Purne Khangsar via Shingula Pass and Gongbo Rangjon

Head out of Manali and drive through scenic mountain roads to Jispa. Stop at Shingula Pass and Gongbo Rangjon for some breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. Continue on to Purne Khangsar, a small village in the Zanskar region.

Day 4: Day hike to Phukthar Monastery and back to Purne

After breakfast, set out on a day hike to Phukthar Monastery, a beautiful 600-year-old monastery set amidst stunning mountain scenery. Return to Purne in the evening for a relaxing night’s rest.

Day 5: Purne to Padum via Mune and Bardan Monastery

Set out for Padum, the largest town in the Zanskar region. On the way, stop at Mune, a small village with a 900-year-old monastery. Then, visit the Bardan Monastery, which is known for its beautiful frescoes and stunning location.

Bardan Monastery, also known as the Mune Gompa, is a 17th-century monastery located in the Zanskar region of Ladakh in India. The monastery is situated at an altitude of 3,900 meters and offers panoramic views of the surrounding mountains.

Bardan Monastery is renowned for its stunning architecture and intricate wall paintings. The monastery has several prayer halls, each adorned with beautiful thangkas and frescoes. Visitors can also explore the monastery’s library, which houses ancient manuscripts and books.

The monastery is an important center of learning for the Gelugpa sect of Tibetan Buddhism and is home to around 70 monks. The monks follow a strict daily routine, which includes meditation, chanting, and studying Buddhist scriptures.

Bardan Monastery is also known for its annual festival, which takes place in the month of July or August. The festival features traditional masked dances and is a vibrant celebration of the monastery’s rich cultural heritage.

Continue on to Padum for the night.

Day 6: Padum Local sightseeing (Karsha, Stongday, Zongkul, Sani)

Today, explore the local sights of Padum, including the Karsha Monastery, which is the largest and most important monastery in the region. Also visit the Stongday, Zongkul, and Sani monasteries, which are known for their beautiful artwork and stunning mountain locations. Padum is a picturesque town located in the Zanskar region of the Union Territory of Ladakh in India. It is the largest town in the Zanskar region and is situated at an altitude of 3,657 meters above sea level. The town is surrounded by majestic mountains and the Stod River, which adds to its natural beauty. Padum is known for its unique blend of cultural and natural attractions. The town is home to several ancient monasteries, including the Karsha Monastery, which is the largest and most important monastery in the region. The monastery is known for its beautiful frescoes and sculptures and is a popular destination for tourists.

Other monasteries in Padum include the Stongday Monastery, which is renowned for its collection of thangkas and murals, and the Zongkul Monastery, which is located on a cliff and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains.

Apart from the monasteries, Padum is also known for its natural beauty. Many visitors explore the nearby Zangla Fort, which was once the home of the Zanskar royal family. The town is also the starting point for several trekking routes, including the trek to the Phuktal Monastery, which is set amidst stunning mountain scenery.

Day 7: Padum to Leh via Singgela Pass, Photoksar, Sir Sirla Pass, Wanla, and Khalatse

Drive through some of the most beautiful and remote areas of the Zanskar region. Cross the Singgela Pass and the Sir Sirla Pass, both of which offer stunning views of the surrounding mountains. Stop at Photoksar and Wanla for some sightseeing, before continuing on to Khalatse and finally Leh.

Day 8: A Day at Leh

Day 9: Depart Leh

After breakfast, depart for the airport and catch your flight back home, bringing with you memories of a once-in-a-lifetime road trip through the stunningly beautiful Zanskar region.
